HMS Ark Royal, Whale Island Display in 1966 written by Bobbie Stevenson
My mother ’Bobbie’ told me about a time when she was the cause of my father being late for a display on Whale Island in 1966. His Chief or Petty Officer going by the name of Tick Tock (He ran Field Gun in the display) gave my mother a real bollocking!
Another memory my mother ’Bobbie’ had was when my father was 16 years old 1959/1960 he was training for the Field Gun display and he tripped and the gun wheel ran over him and broke his collar bone and some ribs. He ended up with a long stay in Hasler Hospital.
