HMS Gurkha, Fire On Board in 1966 written by George Runacus
I was duty LEM when the fire broke out in the Boiler room. Luckily we had carried out an exercise while at Portland which was identical. I think we all did what we were supposed to and the fire was brought under control and extinguished. The particular memory I have was a young Junior Seamen Brown who was everywhere, carrying hoses, running emergency cables, giving tea and stickies out etc. I believe he was a real (unsung) hero. We had three days (Might have been more) with emergency power and eventually got into Gibraltar just in time to see the World Cup Anybody got any memories or any pictures? |

There is nothing worse than breaking down. But if you do, the RAC have more than 1,500 patrols ready to rescue you, whether you are at the shops or on the motorway. They will always try to fix your vehicle at the roadside, but if they cant they will make getting it repaired as painless as possible.
