HMS Fulmar, in 1962 written by thomas (Dusty) gracey
My first posting to RNAS Lossiemouth
where I worked in the Main Stores
with LSA Bob Cocker, Jimmy ’Buster’
Christie, (His brother Dave was our
CPOSA up in the Stores Office), Davie
McKerracher, LSA ’Happy’ Day and also Terry Akister. It was a great posting and 736 and 738 squadrons were there at that time as well as the first 2 Buccaneer aircraft painted all white with yellow nose cones. One was lost over the Moray Firth with crew Lt. Foot & Lt/Cdr Day losing their lives. The first squadron was either 700Z or 801 Sqdn. Football was good up there and ’Buster’ Christie was the Supply
striker - I made do at midfield when
they needed me. It was a lovely area
and the civvie staff were great, Lou
Ryan, Clem Windows and ’Peggy’ who
drove the NAAFI wagon with the morning pies and butties. I learnt to
drive a stacker truck there - I thought it was great. |
