Engineer Regiment Canal Zone in 1952 written by Harold John Webber
Lots of memories 1951-1952, vague except for two. Drove through an ambush near Quassasin on road to TEK better known as shotgun alley. Frequent experience for all drivers. Then. a confrontation with a lorry load of Egyptian Police all armed. My escort in the cab and two sappers in back of a covered 4x2 had broken down one evening on the Treaty road. We sappers put one up the spout and I negotiated a tow back to a REME camp near Nifisha bridge....wasn`t easy!!! The best memories were the sunshine and swimming in the Lido at Fayid. |

There is nothing worse than breaking down. But if you do, the RAC have more than 1,500 patrols ready to rescue you, whether you are at the shops or on the motorway. They will always try to fix your vehicle at the roadside, but if they cant they will make getting it repaired as painless as possible.
