RAF Brize Norton in 1972 written by Malcolm Clarke
Several Propulsion LAC’s posted to Brize some went to the engine bay, others like myself to Line Servicing squadron to work on the VC10’s and Belfasts(still one flying in OZ).We had our own little refreshments counter manned by one of us , serving drinks and snacks. The shifts were 12 hours and we worked 3 days /3 nights and had 6 days off. My singly quarters were next to the runway not far from the NAAFI, I shared my room with Dave Smith and Ian Shimmin. I did live in married quarters later , a flat in Stanmore Crescent our good neighbours were Phil and Jenny Nottingham.
Names I recall are Dave Smith , Dave Owen , Ian Harris , Ian Shimmin , Joe Hodgeson , Bill Richards , Tony Price, Ian Leech, Sgt John Neale, Nigel Hoare, James Henderson (from Callander),John Mcgrady and Paul Rush, some were engines , airframes , leckys and nav ints. |
