Four Mile Pont in 1964
written by Michael Chidwick

1964 We lived as single men in Twynham huts and travelled daily to work in Dhekelia. Spent many a payday in Famagusta enjoying sun, sand and tourists. Then getting inebriated before returning to camp just before revellie. Many trips out to Paralimni, Golden sands and Salamis, where we had home made iceboxes of galvanised dustbins full of broken ice.

1965 Moved to Dhekelia in Barracks and now we worked in Dhekelia and Ayios Nikalaos. Regular visits to Romanzas Bar, or more boozy nights in Larnaca. Lots of parties, and great days out in Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos. Winter fun in the Troodos mountains, including many good NAAFI nights and kebabs in the local restaurants

1966 Still living in Dhekelia and working same two places. Now working in Akrotiri and Nicosia as well. Joined by "Madmen" known as 18 Heavy Drop. Building a Ketch and enjoying canoeing and sailing. Try our hand at waterpolo in Famagusta harbour, generally enjoying ourselves.

1967 Trip out from Famagusta to Lebanon and Israel on a sailing vessel. Visiting Saidon, and getting chased round the port of Tire by locals. Travel from Haifa up through the Negeeb Desert, via Bersheeba, to Eilat with Israeli female army and back with the men. (Shame). Back to Cyprus and Marriage. Still in Heaven
