RAF Nicosia, in 1954 written by Brian Townsend
The six weeks spent on Cyprus was with a group on an NCO training course - up at 05.00, work until 13.00 and then enjoy the ’holiday’. Apart from the scenery, etc., my most vivid memory was driving past an ’opencast’ asbestos mining operation - air full of dust and men working with no protection against the pollution. No H&S then!
The course passing-out parade was almost a disaster with one member literally sliding down his rifle - too much Commanderia - minutes before Groupie arrived. |
