RAF El Firdan, in 1950

 From Stanmore Park to 9MTBD El-Firdan, MEAF Where i served my time on the Coles crane section 1950/3
Also on mobile crane party.Sent to Fayid MT section on stand by during Aberdan oil crisis. This lasted
about 8weeks. Only one living in a tent between billets behind flagpole. The first morning listened to pipe band on camp parade. Had Cyprus holiday for 11 days. Stayed at Royal Hotel Nicosia. Best holiday of my life Scary time when my mate and I, after a few drinks in Ismalia, got in taxi back to El-Firdan which should have gone through RAF Ismalia then along Sweet Water canal but before we realised we were in Black Arashia, crawling through the crowded market with faces looking in the taxi.We were soon sober and with our jack knives at the driver we got through. Not many can say that.
