REME Station Workshops, 5 Batt.Arborfield. in 1956 written by ron wilton
My memory at 5 Batt. is of the bloody ’orrible "food"!!!we were National Servicemen and as such, the Army only fed us slop and muck!!!Come Friday,pay-day,we all went to Smokey Joes just outside ths barracks for BIG-EATS!!This was the only day that we got a decent meal!!!In fact,we had a hate campaign and having boycotted the cookhouse, all piled into the NAAFI!!!Then, I was posted to Malta and had even worse food!!They had an excuse, though,as they had saved the war for the world!!!Happy memories. |

There is nothing worse than breaking down. But if you do, the RAC have more than 1,500 patrols ready to rescue you, whether you are at the shops or on the motorway. They will always try to fix your vehicle at the roadside, but if they cant they will make getting it repaired as painless as possible.
