Provost Company, in 1952 written by John Renton Denholm
I recall as Provost Cpl. on The Charlton Star sailing to the Canal Zone from Southampton with another 20 RMP. We had many other units aboard and the entire journey was friendly with no problems. Stop over in Algiers and the passed Port Said to the Bitter Lakes where four of us RMP disembarked on a landing craft for Fayid on our way to 615 SMPS in Suez - in the rear of a 15 cwt Bedford with armed escort confirmed that we were no longer just ’just playing’ soldiers! Anyone recall this troopship?
On posting from Egypt to Malta and 616 SMPS where we served the Garrison on all police matters. A fantastic posting - especially from Egypt! Made a lot of friends and hope that maybe some will remember - Smith from Tyneside, Louis Jackson from Grimsby who later emigrated to Australia, Pratt, Swan, and others.
