RAF Stanbridge, in 1976 written by Jacquie Goulding (nee Watson)
Sitting alone in PBX on night shift, spooky enough as everyone else was upstairs in commcen, but this was a cold and snowy night with the wind howling through the windows.Around the time of the graveyard shift, (3 a.m. for those who remember), there were loud bangs on each of the windows beginning at the farthest end and getting closer and louder with each window. Well, being the young and fearless ( and perhaps a little stupid) young WRAF that I was, I decided to face whatever was creeping up outside the windows. I approached the window closest to me, broom handle in hand and a fearless look on my face, I drew back the curtain with confidence and aggression. And found several of the commcen guys on the fire escape throwing snowballs at each of the windows in succession, very funny guys (although maybe not at the time) I hasten to add there were no gash calls for those guys for a while!!!! |
