RAF Akrotiri Base Provost Marshall’s Office in 1958 written by Michael French
I worked in the office of Sqn Ldr Bowrey, who I believe was the Base Provost Marshall. Our office window overlooked the Main Gate and I was able to watch all who came on and went off the base.
EOKA was still a major problem in Cyprus at this time, and consequently there were restrictions on how we could travel into Limassol Town and also adhere to firing instructions given to us on a red card. However I felt very privileged to be working for Sqn Ldr Bowery, as he would often fly a Pembroke with mail and other despatches to Nicosia, and providing I was up-to-date with my clerical work, would take me with him. To fly over Cyprus in this small plane and siting in the co-pilot seat was a thrill I will never forget. Thank you Sir, Sqn Ldr Bowrey, for taking me with you on these flying trips. |
