RAF Akrotiri A job offer I just could not refuse... in 1960 written by Michael French
Walking by Base HQ one afternoon I was approached by a WRAF Officer,
flg Off Jolly, who asked me if I was SAC French, which I affirmed, and than went on to say she had heard I was a good dancer. (My jiving at parties it seemed had got around) She than asked if I would be interested in conducting a dance class on Wednesday afternoons, which could be held in the Base Library which had a radiogram. Flg Off Jolly said she could arrange for women to attend my dance classes from Married Quarters, and I would need to arrange for partners from interested airmen. All other issues like dance records could be arranged from the NAAFI Store and by my choice. Well quite a few lads of my acquaintance were interested in meeting some girls and came along, and for quite a while this social interaction went really well. and proved a turning point in my future prospects. It was fun and formed many new friendships... |
