REME Station Workshops, in 1956
written by ronald herbert wilton

i remember the dark days at 5 batt arborfield.we were torn away from our mother's apron strings and on our own in a strange and hostile world.it was cold, the food was muck, the dicscipline was harsh.we had to do one night guard a week and one w/e guard a month after a raid by the ira.on top of all this,we had to do trade (radar) training each day!!the only light relief was to take the p*** out of rsm percy jones, who used big words that he did'nt understand!!ah,me,it was hell but fun at the same time with all the cmrades.

There is nothing worse than breaking down. But if you do, the RAC have more than 1,500 patrols ready to rescue you, whether you are at the shops or on the motorway. They will always try to fix your vehicle at the roadside, but if they cant they will make getting it repaired as painless as possible.
