Ordnance Services Berlin, in 1955
written by ronald campbell

misbehaving and getting 14 days in manchester regt detention unit at wavell bks years later met bernard manning at a dinner which i chaired and he told me he had served in that very barracks at the same time i was locked up in that guardroom after coming out of that nick i made sure i never got in trouble again it cured me maybe it would cure some of these louts who have no respect for anybody and anything these days

berlin was a great posting and i consider myself lucky to be sent there we went into the russian sector many times no wall then we went often to the russian war memorial gardens at treptow and i was awestruck at the beauty of that place and also felt saddened at the lives lost on all sides in that awful war

we used to go into the american sector and the always made us welcome in their bars and px s they loved the scots and we used to team up with the argyles and the black watch and when they were dressed up in their kilts it was a very proud englishman who used to stroll around with these lads seeing the looks on the yanks faces of all ranks was a great feeling and i for one will never ever forget those lovely times and the sheer friendship of the americans at all times
