CWTA (XP) in 1971 written by Mike McCusker
A fun time for all of us with some great people and some interesting trials. We will all remember doing the first sea firing of the 4.5 Mk 8 on an Iranian ship (Rostam) when , just as we were about to shoot,we noticed the Vickers staff all walking past , rapidly going aft. When asked why, they said they all reckoned the turret would fall over the side when we fired. Needless to say it didn't Some familiar names from those times were Tiny Small, Fez Parker, Ginge Cork, Randy Radford, Terry Sircombe, Johnny Verral,George Templeton, John Woolley and our team GI Ken Yalden (always the smartest man on parade- which it has to be said, didn't mean much.I know Ken will remember being approached by a man at Aberdeen station who was a crane driver at the factory we had been working at !
Apologies for the spelling of some of the names - it was a long time ago. |

There is nothing worse than breaking down. But if you do, the RAC have more than 1,500 patrols ready to rescue you, whether you are at the shops or on the motorway. They will always try to fix your vehicle at the roadside, but if they cant they will make getting it repaired as painless as possible.
