Barnard Castle Co Durham in 1949
written by Victor Bullock

I have some great memories..arriving by train (Steam of course) from Wolverhampton in the Black Country, through many stations, along the route including Darlington and ultimately reaching Broomilaw where the barracks were just a short walk away!!

I recall most of my National service as a time filled with favourable memories. The "away from the barracks walks" to teeside,Along the sandy banks of river Tee and much much more.

I`m currently looking for a real pal of mine who shared some of these experiences throughout this youthful time of our lives. Namely, Jonny Sheen we lost contact but I would dearly like to meet up again. All I know is when we met up he said he came from Endon in Stoke on Trent Apparently his parents ran The Black Horse Hotel.

We shared a unplanned train journey to the Midlands in the back end of (49). After loosing the drive chain from the 650cc Matchlees motorbike, Which he and I had started our jouney on. Great times!!

Alas; as with all good things they unfortunately come to an end... I was Demobed in Burton In December 1951 and we drifted apart. If you do know of Jonny give him a nudge would you?If anyone else remembers me I would like a chat about the "old times" Thanks Vic
