Nijmegen March in 1982 written by Joan Ratcliff
I was one of the first WRAF allowed to march with the men on the march. I will never forget the last five miles of the 100 when we marched behind the Central Band and our blood turned 'air force blue'. I have since written a book about the experience called 'Naafi, Knickers and Nijmegen' (you can google it) which I am sure will bring back many happy memories to those who get to read it. Also I remember 'ghost hunting' at Medmenham and the four J's, who nearly always managed to outwit those in authority. I left the WRAF in 1963 as a SACW. In 1970 I returned as WRAF Admin but nothing beat those first formative years. |
