R.A.F. Andover in 1955 written by William (Bill) Maskell
The new pub opened at the top of hill called "The Why Not ". I remember arranging the first dart match. The pub has now changed its name, I cant remember the new name.Does anybody recall the show we put on in the cookhouse in, late 1954,the top act was The Four Smith Brothers (they were famous as the five, but one went off to Canada) . A supporting act was known as Rondart, he blew his darts at the board. I was organiser on behalf of "other ranks " I was very disappointed that the station was officially closed in September and I missed the ceremony, I found this out on the R.A.F. website. Can anyone recall our parade when we got the Freedom of the Borough of Andover, I was in the station guard of honour at the time,i still have all the photos taken by F/Off Kreji, I took the orders from other ranks for him. |
