South East England in 1944 written by Des Hickinbottom
I remember well seeing the first Pilotless aircraft (The Flying Bomb or Dooglebug) the Germans sent over in their start of the secret weapons war against London I was serving with the RAOC and stationed on an ammunition depot situated near to Oxted in Surrey. From the house in which we were billeted we had a marvelous view across the downs towards Sussex and one night we heard this sound like a motor-cycle engine and looking through the windows we saw what appeared to be a kind of aircraft with flames coming from the rear. We saw many of these that first night and later we learned what they were.
.
While the onslaught on these weapons continued quite a few landed in the Oxted area but luckily none ever dropped in the depot otherwise there would have been an almighty bang and no doubt many casualties. |

There is nothing worse than breaking down. But if you do, the RAC have more than 1,500 patrols ready to rescue you, whether you are at the shops or on the motorway. They will always try to fix your vehicle at the roadside, but if they cant they will make getting it repaired as painless as possible.
