I can only say that my national service was the best 2 years of my life, and all the guys I met on my travels were the best mates I have ever had and that includes right up to the present day.
I spent 4 weeks in Singapore in Nee Soon transit camp and the rest of my service in Hong Kong at 3 camps the first was 82 ind squ shamshuipo, then onto 24 fld eng regt RHQ in the new territories as well as a camp in kowloon whilst driving the Padre Cpt Steven Ogden.(what a lovely bloke)
