Cyprus, Akrotiri in 1957 written by george seear
I remember coming off guard duty one morning and getting washed in one of those bowls they gave us when ,as I was walking back to my tent we heard Sgt. Gedman call to " Long John Silver" Stand to attention, which he did and then told him to PORT ARMS .So silver went through the motions and, forgetting that he had just come off guard put one up the spout and pulled the trigger. Well, we all had 303"s and when Long John pulled the trigger we thought that we were under attack. Well the bullet that came from his rifle went through to tent poles and shattered a large stone on the ground outside, just as George Shearer was walking back to his tent. what happened was the piece of flint from the shattered stone flew up and cut off George Shearer"s nipple. I dont remember what happened after that, so if anyone remembers that incident and can add to it please feel free to do so. |
