changi jail in 1965

 on returning to cassandra after having finger removed i/d no sooner stepped on board than the coxswain ordered me bosuns mate duties / considering i could/nt hold a bosun/s pipe never mind blow it / plus myself and the coxswain had never seen eye to eye/ not being pleased would have been putting it politely/ so i ended up on a charge / on the offencers muster i ended up under a midshipman who deemed it funny to shout boy in my face every time he spoke/ my reaction collected me 90days in changi/changi was run everywhere / scrub floors with a toothbrush/ assault course / exercising with telegraph poles/ eight mile march with full pack/ on one of the assault course days i was bitten by a snake and ended up in hospital for nearly two weeks / plenty of free ciggys passed round by the officers wifes god bless em/ the lads in changi were in ranging from murder / gbh/ even aussies who had deserted from vietnam/ on xmas day we were split into teams and had to attempt long jump / weightlifting/ running carrying a telegraph pole 6per above our heads / badmington/ my team came in 2nd which earned us 8 ciggys each/ i actually enjoyed it / with good behaviour i was released the day before new years eve/ it was the fittest i/d ever been in my life and at the end of the day an experiance i accepted as /learning |
