Harper Barracks, Ripon, Yorkshire in 1952
written by Sydney Harper

Helping to restore a Rudge Motor cycle owned by a guy called Hollister (Olly) and then being taken for a ride on pillion and scared witless. Enjoyed my time at Harper Barracks, especially the Friday and Saturday nights as a guest of Dusty Rhodes in the Tetley Hotel in Ripon Town Square where he introduced me to Tetleys Bitter and I have been a fan ever since!

Was on CADRE in the documents office at Harper Barracks, Ripon from December 1950 to September 1952. worked under Dusty Rhodes (Senior Clerical Officer) & Mr Gault (clerical Officer). Frank Rusholme was my mate at the time, he came from Hull but we lost touch many years ago. I would like to hear from him or any one else who served there at the time. Sgt Craig was the Orderly Room Sgt to whom I was responsible.

Names I remember: Twohey, Cyril Hurrel, Sgt Craig, Hollister(Olly), Ashcroft (from Preston), Frank Rusholme, Alan Hunt (from Manchester), Ian Talbot (Education Corps) (from Wigan), Alan Ainsworth from Bolton. Arthur Hart from Birmingham (he is the one on the left in the three sqaddy photo). Stan from the Telephone exchange (Derby?). Sgt Kidd from White Helmets. Where are they now?
