Malaya Borneo and Brunei in 1962 written by John Gudge
Although the Malayan Emergency was over, there were still CTs in the forests of North Malaya. We opperated from RAAF Butterworth, where, along with 52 Sqn, we dropped supplies into the jungle, in order to keep our lads living, fighting and moving. This is also where I met Dave Drury, a harmonica player like me. Then I was sent to Labuan and Brunei when Mr Azahari began his rebellion. We stayed on in order to pursuade Indonesian President Soekano to bring his troups back to Djakarta, and leave the new nation of Malaysia in peace.Labuan is where I met and married Rose, a local Chinese girl who worked in the control Tower at Labuan Airport. This was one of my happier times. There were many. |
