Range party Castlemartin 1958 in 2008 written by adrian yates
We were sent to the arse end of nowhere to erect about 500 tents, they were big brown buggers and weighed about 1cwt each. they had to be in regular lines with equal spacing and the pegs like a brigade of guards in Horse Guards Parade, and after a couple of weeks we were able to do this with our eyes shut.Therewasa suddennflux of tankies so the range party was sent out to man the target winches, and we started at 0500 hrs, as we drove through the lines of tents we gave the sleeping beauties a few "rebel yells" which made us very popular with one and all. We reasoned that if we had to be up for their beifit, then they should be awake to appreciate all our hard work. I thin that it mat well have been. We discovered that the "telephone handsets signallers",were connected to a remote feild exchange andthru this to the camp exchange which of course went national. when things were quiet we would phone such friends and relations as had phones and chat away for ages. One guy got his auntie in California out of bed and to prove that it could be done, she sent him a postcard thanking him for his early morning call.It was little things like this which broke the tedium, well that and when we were put on guard we would (at two AM) howl like a wolf, this started th Colonels dog off, so he'd be put outside where his howling started the other local beasts off. I like to think that we kept the best part of wales wide awake from time to time. |

There is nothing worse than breaking down. But if you do, the RAC have more than 1,500 patrols ready to rescue you, whether you are at the shops or on the motorway. They will always try to fix your vehicle at the roadside, but if they cant they will make getting it repaired as painless as possible.
