 Hms Ashanti, we left Malta in company with the squadran, to carry out live firerings. Radar found a ship on the range, as junior ship Ashanti was sent to investigate.What we found amazed all,the forward half of the julystar.After repeated attempts to make contact the helo was launched with a boarding crew.A serch of the wreck found it to be deserted.Having asked and been refused permision to sink the wreck, we were orderd to tow it to Gib. This turnd out to be easyer said than done.The tow cable parted on several occasions,at one point due to sea state we accualy were going backwards.Later a tug met us and took up the tow.The wreck lay in Gib for several months,if any one can saywhere it went I would be gratfull. |
