myself and ranger moore,1 royal irish rangers, milan pln, were taking part in live firing exercises at suffield, alberta. A night shoot was planned and we were all dug-in,waiting for the start of the shoot, when our secion sgt, infomed myself and ranger moore,to head back to zulu muster with all the spare kit.Darkness wass about to fall and we both expressed our concern at this,to no avail! We did as ordered, grumping along the way and got the kit safely stowed away in the apc.At this stage it was almost dark and we both said that we would not make it back to the pln firing position in time, but we had to try! Suddenly,we are in pitch darkness,PANIC,sets in rapid because we are totally blind, and knowing that live firing is about to begin! We keep walking and there is not even a sound,to get our bearings on,this goes on for around 45 minutes when we hear a faint noise in the distance,we head towards it. We had stumbled onto a squadron of tanks,of the royal irish hussars! A posh voice rang out in the darkness,i say,are you the two chaps who are lost? ranger Moore,in a muffled voice replied, take a wild guess!-------! I laughed, but was happy that we were both safe! We stayed with the tanks until the nightshoot was over,we both made sure it would not happen to us again! |
