Belize in 1978 written by John Boston
Jungle Traing - what a hoot. We'd lost Borneo so Belize "Was it" for such training. Ambushes and long Patrols in readiness for Qualamala's "Problems". Whilst leading a Patrol (32-Charlie) 3 Queens Regiment in ambush Patrol Training - the route took us through 10 feet Razor grass area. So obviously a 'set-up' for ambush, I had all my lads pull down Jungle Fatigue shirts, tighten Jungle Boots, and instead of 'bypassing' by going through a trail the razor grass, we went right through it, counter ambushed and succeded in winning. Steve Fisher (Best Scout I ever had) was always on the ball. After an great tour of Belize we returned to Catterick to Beat the Para Boys and all Regiments in the North-East March and short competition. Peter Bishop was our much admired O.C. and I grovelled to get my Lad's four day's R&R - which we got. Loved the Life - all 9-10 Years. |
