First Ship in 1950 written by keith Miller
My first sea going ship, the magnificent Vanguard, stepping for the first time on the white wooden fo'csle, overshadowed by the 15" gun barrels,an intense feeling of pride.Vanguard was a fairly new ship in 1950, mod cons included seperate dinning halls from the mess deck, a laundry , kit washed and ironed overnight. There was a goffer bar and cinema . At sea she was steady and dry , an awe inspiring sight. My next ship was an entirely different kettle of fish , a destroyer, but thats another story. |
