Carte Blanche in 1954 written by Haydn Trezise
Does anyone remember the Exercise in Germany in 1954 "Carte Blanche", all Forces. I was with the RAF Hospital Wegberg who had to set up a Mobile Field Hospital behind so called enemy lines in the Black Forrest. I remember it had to be well camouflaged. I was the only Signals guy there and had a tent to myself with a mobile switchboard and I had to stay there, food was brought to me. On the second day I heard low flying aircraft so went outside my tent and waved to the pilot as it swooped by. Little did I know that after setting up the Hospital, reconnaissance planes were sent in to see how affective the camoflage was. Fine except for this lone figure in a clearing, waving at the aircraft. Those above were not amused. |
