Sharjah in 1969

 I was in A Sqdn. 3RTR and spent 9 mths. in Sharjah.One night we all watched a film, "Cool Hand Luke" which involved Paul Newman eating 50 hard boiled eggs in one sitting. Afterwards one of the lads said "I can do that with fresh eggs". The bets were laid and 5 pint glasses were produced with 10 eggs in each one.He downed 3 of them and asked if we minded if he went for a stroll for 5 mins.We agreed and sent one of the lads with him to make sure there was no chicanery involved.Eventually he returned and finished off the other 2 glasses and won the bet.It was years later that I found out he had split the winnings with his minder so that he could be sick.I shall not name him but he came from wales!!! |
