Kota Belud/ Jesselton in 1960 written by Mike Whitehead
Anyone remember 10 Inf Wkp Det at Paradise Camp at Kota Belud? A tented camp with not much to do other than take potshots with catapult and ballbearings (gently of course) at the buffalos if they wandered into the tents at night.Early in 1960 half a dozen of us decided to walk to Jesselton for something to do, so we started out at 16.30 and three of us arrived in Jesselton at 07.30 the following morning. The three that made it were Ginger Eastwood, Ray Leggett and myself (Mick Whitehead). I still have the photograph of the three of us by the 'Jesselton Town' sign if Ray or Ginger are out there and wants a copy. |
