61 Sqdn to Bremen and back - March 1945 in 1945

 Leaving Skellingthorpe at 1010 on the morning of 27th March 1945, we headed for Farge oil refineries with a bombload of 14,000 lbs. It was rather lively so much so that when we landed back at base after a 5 hour 10 minute flight, our port inner engine was out of action, a rudder had been riddled by shrapnel and the four petrol tanks in the wings had to be replaced immediately for the next night, once again riddled by flak. Our pilot had wrist injuries from the same cause. It was a sorry sight. |
