Leong Nok Ta Airfield Thailand in 1965 written by John Hamnett
Harry Secombe, Anita Harris, Johnny Ball (Zoe's Dad), Billy Budd and Myrna Rose visited Op/Crown Thailand sometime around 1964/65. They performed for the troops building the airfield and the local population of Kok Talat who were allowed into the camp for the show. They gave a show which was rapturously received by the audience, even though half of them could not speak English. The highlight for myself, was of Myrna Rose, discarding the Mike and using the acoustics of the A framed timber built Church to produce a magical moment I have never forgotten. Another powerfull memory is of the Thai people from Momma Sans to babes in arms sitting in front of the stage enjoying a once in a lifetime (for them )surrealist night out. |
