Firefly Disco - Gatow, Berlin in 1975 written by Mick Pass
I can't remember doing a great deal of work at 26SU; just the disco and a multitude of drinking establishments! Yet they say you only remember the bad times clearly.....I don't think so! Paul Brennecke and I had some fantastic gigs on Gatow and in town. Like the one we did for the Masons I think it was. We assumed that it would just be men so we decided that appropriate background music and some risque material would be in order. Imagine our surprise when they all turned up with partners of the female persuasion! Not only that but the average age seemed to be around mid 60s.It turned out however that after a couple of warm up records they hit the floor with a vengeance and only left it twice (apart from nature breaks) once for the buffet, which was fantastic; and believe me, as a DJ I've seen more than my fair share of those! The second time was when we wound it up. By the end these guys had danced to Chart, Soul, Tamla, Reggae and Oldies and not a beat of Ballroom to be heard. I don't know if any of them are still around, but if you are reading this.....Thanks for a great night. |
