Junior Leaders Company RASC in 1958 written by chris ottewell
I decided to join the Army at the age of 15 as a Junioor Leader=The advert said "Officers and Senior NCOs of Tomorrows Army"t sounded such a good idea at the time. I arrived at Liss Station on September 8 1958 and was put in the back of a Commer 3 tonner and taken to St Lucia Barracks in Bordon. My Army career started by someone shouting to us "You will regret it" What a start . I got worse and I wondered what I had done the first three months were awful and all I seemed to do was march clean and generally take a load of arders from small young juniour NCOS and Serniour Ncoa.I
CSM Dibble although only a small man had a very large mouth and a vouce to match but we became a unit and I progressed from the intake platoon to the Band . I joined Clayton platoon as a fluutist as it meant that I wuld not do so much square backing.
Trumpet Major Bottley was the man who taught me that a flute I could not play but a trumpet I could play1
The next year or so went well and i progressed to be the Intake Juniour Sergent of Connaught Platoon and then finished my time as the Juniour CSM of B Company.
I left in 1961 and would like to make contact with any other ex Juniouyr Leaders |

There is nothing worse than breaking down. But if you do, the RAC have more than 1,500 patrols ready to rescue you, whether you are at the shops or on the motorway. They will always try to fix your vehicle at the roadside, but if they cant they will make getting it repaired as painless as possible.
