As Chief Clerk HQ Sqdn Re Sr 18 Rly Grp reservist I was mobilized in November 1951 and after vaccinations, 7 days leave was put into Gopodge Street underground Bunker for several days. Then flown via Luqua, Malta to Fayid and sent to Port Said, IWT Workshops and appointed Quay Foreman (No previous experience!) given Seychelles and Maurition Pioneer Corps to load and unoad barges and trains for 6 months.Almost 6 months and rewarded with severe back problems and 30% War pension many years later. Still loved it! |
