From Rosyth in 2005 written by Mick Wyer
1954 I was transferred to Agincourt as a temp crew,at the time I was a Stoker/mech.Some fire/works had gone astray and injured a couple of stokers. We left Rosyth to Odense in Denmark .Entry by this very long Canal.I had some good laughs there with a Stoker called Dickie Bird who wore a full set(jet Black it was). The local kids where invited to a party on-board including the Mayor. On conclusion of the party quite a crowd of us went ashore still dressed as Pirates with wooden swords and a Gong from the Wardroom . We marched up into the town and a good drink with the locals.we were recalled back to the ship ,on the way back some of us got astride these big Cart/horses and rode back .Captain "D" wasn't very pleased. We sailed on to Larvik played them at football and then back to Rosyth I left then,a good 6weeks of merriment .Cheers. |
