RAF Detachment Plattling in Bavaria in 1965

 Had my 20th birthday in Plattling as part of a team of 1 Corporal and 5 airman manning the remote DF site outside the town. Deep in what was then the US Zone, we had a great time and were part of the town. We lived in the Hotel Preysinghof and had the cellar (Apostel Kellar) for our club. Still visit as part of a fire brigade (now much bigger) partnership and an honorary member of the local feuerwehr.
My old haunting ground of Selkirk in the Scottish Boarders is now twinned with Plattling with many other partnerhips having been formed - all from my time there in 1965/66. |
