Icelandic Cod War in 1962 written by bob holden
Whilst on patrol in Icelandic waters on HMS Duncan. A Grimsby fishing vessel was found to be fishing inside the 12 mile limit, the then officer of the watch in his best Oxford English called up the trawler and said " Northen Jewel, this is warship Duncan. You are getting your feet wet and Puss-in-Boots is round the corner ( refering to the Icelandic gun boat "Thor" lurking in the next fjord) Back came the reply in a broad Yorkshire accent.;- I dont give a toss if there's and Alsatian with clogs on, I'm finishing this trawl. Followed by a few titters in the chartroom. |
