Basic training in Winston Barracks, Lanark where I met George Burton,we were posted to 3 Training Battalion RASC at Hadrians Camp Carlisle. We were then posted to 611 Coy at Worksop and later on to Osset in Yorkshire before being posted overseas. George went to West Afica and later Germany, I went to Palestine with 258 Coy at Haifa. Later I served with 470 Coy Ambulance Car at Sarafand. On Partition of Palestine I was posted to 242 Coy in Mombasa and later to Mckinnon Road, I Returned to the UK in 1948. I was then posted to 3 Training Battalion RASC at Farnbough in Hampshire where I stayed until discharge in 1952. I met George Burton again in 2005 after not seeing him for almost 60 years to the day, a great reunion with a great friend. |
