B.M.H. Benghazi in 1953

 Maisie my wife arrived in Benghazi saying how well she had been looked after travelling from Northern Ireland all the way to Libya with staff cars picking her and the two children up and them being given first class service all the way.
Three weeks after they arrived I was called in front of the company officer to tell me I had a bill for £39 to pay as there had been a mistake and my family had travelled as the wife of Col instead of Cpl Woodward. The C.O.had a good laugh tore the letter up and said some poor Chief Clerk would get his behind kicked. to put it into context
£39 was more than a months pay for a cook corporal. |
