Libya, North Africa in 1961 written by John Buchanan
At this time we where in strategic reserve and once a year, sent to Libya, landing at El Alem, then camped at Derna prior to moving to the 8th Army road. We had been issued with the new Kaki combat equipment, and walking out dress. The combat trousers had a wide long brass zip, here my story will unfold. First light was upon us climbing from my trench I exsersized myself, at this very point a cry of stand-to was called grasping my zip I pulled it. I never got it up for three days I never got it up. Joining the que of blisters I awaited my turn. The MO called me forword with tears in my eyes I advanced, then showed him the problem He remarked you dont want a Mo you need the pioner Sargent, to this day I have a reminder I carry with, me the shape it's the size of a half crown and that's being modest Being a Old Brag I would be. |
