1 Wireless Regt., Gluckstadt - 1946 to 1948 in 1946 written by Gordon Jenkins
I have a very vivid memory of Christmas 1946. Our C.O. Lt.Col.A.E.Barton gave permission for us to throw a party for some local children and other children from a nearby displaced persons camp.
At the conclusion of the party the youngsters sang "Silent Night" for us.
There were a number of married men present who had children of their own at home. It was quite a shock for some of us to see so many "old Hands" with a tear in their eye.
Truly, a happy memory |
