Normandy in 1944 written by Bernard Heggs
I am trying to trace the movements of my father in law BERNARD HEGGS on and after D-Day.He was gliderborne with the 6th Air Landing Brigade.
He was in 13 Platoon, A Company, 2nd Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Regiment under Lt. K. Gunter. His biography goes as far as him embarking on to the glider and no further. We know he was injured in an expolsion about 6 weeks after D-Day and repatriated on a (Canadian?) hospital ship, and treated by the famous plastic surgeon, Sir Archibald McIndoe. Any information on 13 Platoon, A Company, 2nd Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Regiment on D-Day and the couple of months after would be gratefuly received. |
