229 Signal Squadron in 1962

I Have many memories of this year and the year following(1963)My very first christmas in the army.What a grear time we all had tea in bed served by the senior NCO's Christmas dinner served by those very same NCO's>tThe christmas party of which we all got drunk and I got upand sang as did many others and the senior NCO's singing "We are the queen street girls.Sgt major Blake coming on parade without his teeth as he had been out on the ale the night previous

To continue from above.Going sking Army style.The many demob parties as there were still some national service at the squadron.Particular John(Jake)Wades and many others being up in front of Captain Olds one A.M as we had been out on another party and came back rather the worse for wear and creating pandamonium.Icould sit herer and write for hours

Captain Olds wedding all going to his stag do then all the squadron going to the wedding and the DO we had afterwards while the officers went to his reception.Being caslled out on Rocking horses

Some rare old nights down town in the centre of Berlin(being interrupted by the Redcaps of 247 who were billeted next door to usGetting ready for Admin inspection

Some rare old nights down at the American P F club We used to do a radio duty on the military train and did those waiters look after us plenty of grub and of course beer

My first encounter with Schapps ohhh the morning afterFrank Bradley will remember that and coming back drunk and being put to bed by Jake

The Tug o war team got together by Sgt Major Hadfield they did well with help from us yelling them on did not win anything but got to the semmi final

The barracks we stayed in when we went sking what a dump massive room filled with lots of people all sleeping on bunk beds still managing a night out though

Ging out on sqadron exercise a mock battle sadly though someone got hurt by a blank cartridge(Smudger Smith)

I did spend one Boxing day with German family who made me very welcome 4 of us scoffed a bag of sweets and biscuits when I got back which they gave me
