Basic Training at Lingfield in 1963 written by Irene Whittaker [maclean]
I too did my basic Training at Hobbs Barracks,Lingfield. We were stood to attention, waiting for the Redcap Sgt.to
inspect our room, all trembling at the knees-in those days the NCO's were little "tin gods".I thought I had done a good job of making my bed,but she didn't.She picked the bedding up,and stripped the whole lot.Forty something years later,I met that ex sgt.at the WRAC Dinner Club at Stoke-on-Trent.Through devious ways,I managed to get the key to her bedroom-and-yes I stripped hers.Revenge was VERY sweet that day, after all those years!! |
