12 Air Formation/21 Signal Regiment in 1958 written by Bill Pearson
From Harwich to the Hook of Holland in one of the Empire Boats. From there down to Goch, then a 70 mile trip in the back of a 3 tonner down to Geilenkirchen.
Great posting, good bunch of lads, working and boozing, then along came the new OC, inspections and bull, we had a falling out and I was posted along with Jock MacKenna,
ex Staff Sargeant, left with his stripes, to Bruggen. I can't remember how long we were there, just a matter of hours I think before they posted us up to Laarbruch, C Line Troop, later to become F Heavy Cable, many of the odds and sods ended up in Charlie Troop.National Service was coming to an end, many of the lads had been defered to finish apprenticeships, so we had a mixed bunch, but what a bunch. Our OC wrote in a letter home, that he left on his desk, near an open window."these men make the Sheriff of Nottingham and Al Capone look like little Choirboys, but their the best bunch of lads in the army. |
