Omagh, N Ireland in 1973 written by Bob Jones
Took over from the 16/151th Lancers when on the advance party from Osnabruck, spent the first week or two patrolling to familiarise us with area, one of the more amusing anectodes, was when on G.P.O van escort duty one day we stopped to carry out V.C.P duties and being brand new out of training we sprang into action and doubled away to our respective duties, mine was long stop ,so I jumped into a ditch and brought my weapon into the shoulder covering my arc of fire convinced that terrorist was going to jump out of the hedge at any moment, after a couple of minutes the outgoing Lancer N.C.O walked up to me and said, "Very impressive but wot you get wet down there" to which I rather depressingly repied," Yes but I have got 18 months to dry out???" O f he trudged holding his S.L.R by the barrel, little did I realise that 18 months later I to would be filled with tha same apathy towards the situation |

There is nothing worse than breaking down. But if you do, the RAC have more than 1,500 patrols ready to rescue you, whether you are at the shops or on the motorway. They will always try to fix your vehicle at the roadside, but if they cant they will make getting it repaired as painless as possible.
